It appears that the wife's older computer has died and so she cannot use
it anymore for transcribing music into Braille for the college and
University students. This means that she has to do all that stuff from
her newer machine and that one is not connected to the internet. I
suggested that we put _my_ DSL Sympatico onto _her_ computer, as it is
relatively easy to do, and she can then send her work to the profs by
email rather than snail mail on an old-style disquette.
Sooooo,,,,, heh.... heh.... heh..... I'm gonna walk the wires and the
modem over to her desk and do that (hopefully) tonite. It may not work
and if it doesn't I am _positive_ that Sympatico will go ballistic
because I haven't the right or the privilege.... etc.
So, if I'm not speakin' to youse for a few days, it's because I'm
procuring an audience with the Pope to straighten things out.

Un-Huh.. but the Ethernet wires would be lo.o.o.o.o.ong and right in the
rabbit's running area. She just _loves_ to chew wires. Unfortunately,
the 'puters are not close by. Still if by 'router' you mean a 'hub'
where one can connect multiple 'puters to one input, then that could be
a very good solution. I'd just have to move the iBook over to her desks
when I do my blathering, but I wouldn't have to disconnect her 'puter.
Thanks Big C, I'll look into that.

Absolutely correct, but Airport is $$$. Pity, though, as my clam-shell
iBook has the antenna built in.
Actually, I think all the iBooks, old and new, have that.

Stove,
Futureshop, Staples and others have the SMC Barricade (wired) on for $10 You
could do wireless for about a hundred. Slimepatico will sell you a modem upgrade
to a one piece modem/wireless router for $70 . That plus a wireless card should
cost you about $100. Most the wireless units will give you wired capabilities,
so you can insert it in line with the setup you have now and then get one
wireless PCI card for the other puter. That will give you a hardware firewall
too. Does your lappy have wireless? Give me a call Sunday and I will talk you
through it.

Howdy, Roy.
Yes, the iBook does have wireless built in; it think all the iBooks do.
This SMC Barricade seems interesting though: I don't have the $$$ right
at the moment for much else. I'll give you a shout later today.
Thanks

I've decided to wait. I'm gonna take youse advice and so I'll go to the
local computer recycling depot and see if I can't get a quality used
router at a decent price and then do the whole thing. I also will phone
Sympatico so they don't go apesh*t if things don't go right. AFAICS,
they can't refuse me the right to swap one computer for another, as long
as there is only one user.
Thank Youse
