Western Dental Center?

My wife needs dental care. We are of extremely limited means, so much so
that even doing a $100 extraction is stretching it to the max to pull off.
And that's not even the most desirable option obviously; a root canal would
be.

There is this other organization called El Rio Clinic (I am in Tucson) and
they have reduced rates, they charge a $40 registration fee and would offer
reduced rates for any work (though I don't know how reduced) although I am
not sure if they would take payments. The Western Dental Center charges $65
but that includes an exam etc. Plus, if you need a root canal--they said it
would run 300-550 to do, which definitely sounds low (but then, are they
forgetting that much more for a crown which would need to be done also I'd
think?) regardless they would take 20% down on any work like that.

I am not sure what to do. I do hear of Western Dental being a "dental mill,"
makes it sound like it's inferior or as if getting work done by them would
be as "cheesy" or desperate as getting a television or furniture from one of
those rent-to-own places. An appointment has been made for them tomorrow but
I'm thinking the thing to do is for me to go to El Rio Clinic and found out
what they would charge & what payment plans would exist etc.

Sure, drop your internet access, stop eating out, watch movies on TV instead
of at the show, buy your clothes at Wal-Mart, etc. and save enough to pay
for decent care.  Perhaps you have skills which can be traded for service?
Or, you might need to bite the bullet, get rid of this tooth, and work hard
to train for a better job.  There are ways to accomplish anything you want
if you sacrifice and work hard.

Eh... no, I was referring to dropping your internet access for 5 months
to pay for an extraction... though those Honey BBQ Baby Backs do look
rather tasty...

I got the record ... 18 months of paying nothing for internet access!

Now I pay $9.95 per month ...... at home.

But I gots DSL in the office .......
letsconnect - 08 Sep 2005 15:43 GMT
OK, dropping 10 months of internet access, then... Applebee's even do
"a mini-vacation in a salt-rimmed glass", which should cut down on
vacation costs... that would represent quite a substantial saving.

Better yet, sell the computer and get the tooth fixed.

I was assuming this was about "pitching", but again, you would have to
ask Falp.

I never realized the 'full osseous' bit was a euphemism up until now
(got sidetracked by the 'flap'). Thanks for clarifying that!

Wrong... anyway, the connection between the (as you phrase it) "full
osseous" and the, ahem, "flap" only registered with me after W_B
alerted me to the fact... I didn't even know you were referring to
*that* flap until you mentioned "brown bread".

Anyways - have a great holiday, "brown bread" and all :-) ! (now we've
figured out how your blog manages to rank so highly in Google... I'll
have to check it out in more detail ;-P).

Dang.... I though for sure you were Irish.....you remind me very much
of a friend of mine in Dublin - Sheelah ...great gal!

Nopers, I am not there...am home in California.

Actually fullosseousflap was a nickname I used for a game called
Counter-Strike.

But, you can interpret it anyway you wish.

Still love the Irish brown bread though.

It ranks high in google because I write too much!

I would assume so, yes. But you would have to ask Falp (he's the one
coming up with all these ambiguous euphemisms).

Larry R Harrison Jr WROTE,

REPLY

Patient-to-doctor, doctor-to-patient ......

Hi Larry,

Joel M. Eichen DDS here. You are so right! I have struggled with this
for an entire dental career. But I have found a happy medium. Whenever
people of limited means visit me, dentistry becomes affordable for
them. Why? That's my advertising.

I always prefer to dispense $100 worth of affordable dentistry, or
dispense $100 worth of dentistry for fifty bucks, or even for ten
bucks. Why? Its better to "spend my advertising money" helping patients
than handing it over to advertising companies.

It costs dentists $500 or $1,000 for a cheezy-ad that runs in a weekly
throw away paper that nobody reads. TRUE!

Now if you are still with me, or if anyone else is, I will offer you
suggestions how to get on board with this. Now if Dr. Steve or anyone
else wants to learn how to get MORE PATIENTS and patients want to learn
how to find GOOD DOCTORS, better signal by replying and saying
something. Just an "amen" will do although whatever people have to say
is always warmly appreciated.

If thgere are two of us or more, that's enough. That's a conversation.
If I am talking to myself, well then I'll quit as I am in trouble for
too many words already.

Joel

If $100 is your budget, perhaps an extraction is your best choice.
