Scaler / tooth-scraper for home use?

Is it possible to buy the hook-shaped scaler tool that dentists use to
remove plaque for home use?

I floss and brush regularly (electric brush with 2-min timer), but I
still seem to get some plaque forming on the lower parts of my teeth.

Also, I get stains in-between my canine teeth, and no amount of
flossing/brushing can remove them. It seems only that scaler tool is
capable of removing them when I go to my dentist's office. I even
bought that Opalescence system with custom-made trays and whitening
gel, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything about those stains.

I bet they are embedded within the tooth ... Wal-Mart sells some
worthless overpriced junk for scaling teeth but as I said it is ...
worthless ..... and ......

Hmmmmm. got it ... overpriced!

No, they can't be embedded within the tooth. I got some of them off
using the metalic filer thing that comes with a nail-clip (the pointed
end, after sterilizing). Scraping with that removed the stain as far in
as it could get between my teeth. But it's too blunt to get to some of
it.

Okay, then go to Wal-Mart, or better ask your dentist for some old
scaler he no longer uses ....... but tell him its because you are a
sculptor and use them for clay work. If you tell him its to clean your
teeth ... well watch out for flying instruments!

Yep, I know it is, because I have one. It came in a set with a little
dental mirror. What I don't know is where I got the set. Maybe a
dentist will know.
