Is It A Cavity?

I have a dental appointment, and I'm not looking forward to it. I have
never had a cavity in my 30 years, but I now have yellow/brown lines and
spots on the crowns (I don't mean dental implants, I mean the part of
the teeth that you bite with) of my two back teeth. Sometimes one of
those teeth hurt too. Not when I'm eating usually, but when I put my top
and bottom teeth together. How can you tell when it's a cavity, or
tartar or root canal or something else? I know the traditional answer is
"Go to your dentist", and I am, but I haven't been to one in almost 7
years, and I want to know what to expect them to say it is. Thanks.

It's impossible to tell you what they are without an examination.

DEF.

A board with the alphabet on it; used with a planchette to spell out
supernatural messages

END DEF.

You need to get WordWeb ... a free, stand-alone program that I
activate by selecting (LEFT MOUSE butoon + scroll), then using MY
HOT-KEYS which are Ctrl-Alt-W right now ... for Word Web.

Here is what I see ......... wait-a-minute-here ..........

..

..

OKAY, seriously, this took me less than 2 minutes to demonstrate
exactly what I did .....

1. Grabbed img of WordWeb using Alt-PrntScrn
2. Pasted into Paint.
3. Saved As ... Ouija.bmp
4. Saved As ... Ouija2.jpg (to redule file size)
5. Went to www.tinypic.com
6. Uploaded thast took 20 seconds on a dial-up because it is early in
the morning and no one is up yet.
7. Copied and inserted reference [ i m g ] code into this nntp
message.

VOY'-y-y-y-LA

(Voila!)

This is very useful for correcting usage errors ..... and help us to
learn the language. Gee I hope the children of America are using this
technology.

However, this raises other issues ......

What's a plachette?

DEF. A triangular board supported on casters; when lightly touched
with the fingertips it is supposed to spell out supernatural (or
unconscious) messages

Get it? Knowledge leads to questions ........

LIKE, "What's a temporary?"

You don't have to re-save or cut down your image to upload it to
TinyPic. The site does it for you.

True, but my "saves" over here are one Meg and 2 Megs. So even
uploading and letting tinypic resize it is wasteful.

The same jpg is one-twentieth of the file size (5%).

On My DSL connection is doesn't matter ... on my dial-up it does.

No, what do you expect them to say IT IS, not what do you expect them to
SAY.

Don't worry the process of extracting money from your wallet is quite
painless but it might feels a bit lighter afterwards.

About DentalCom.Net ......

Here is what we see over here ... the pics are "IN-LINE" not posted a
"LINK-TO" external piccies. In the days of 1 MEG and 2 MEG RAM this wa
important because rendering photos was time consuming. Today, eve
cheezy computers have 256 MEGS, 512 MEGS, or even one gigabyte of RA
so you tell me why not emerge into the modern age?

Further, DentalCom.Net has 26 other forums besides this one ..
Cosmetic Dentistry, Legal Issues, etc. I cannot imagine discussin
cosmetic dentistry cases without in-line photos!

SP's reply:

Because, for one, not all of us have high speed. NNTP is great for slow
connections, you know that already. For two, if I wanted to answer your
two assertions up there above, I cannot, unless I manually insert the
carret ('>') character on each line and then separate them. If I don't,
my own newsreader won't highlight yourn from mine.

And for three,  If you use OutHouse Express as your newsreader, it does
the same thing with automatically inserting pictures, I think.

And lastly, and not to be a snob about it, but it takes some extra
effort to find and get down to the nntp level, find the groups and set
up a newsreader. It is not hard, but it _is_ beyond the patience
tolerance of most internet users. So, I would suggest that the extra
effort it takes to use nntp properly tends to screen out the riff-raff
who just couldn't be bothered unless it is very easy. There are
obviously many quality people posting from the web gateways, but there
are many more doing so from the UseNet side, IMO.

Go ahead, I've put on my WW2 helmet, so I'm ready to be blasted. This is
not a popular veiw, but there it is.

I am using dial-up right now .... $9.95 per month and it flies because
everyone has gone to Comcast cable and Verizon DSL.

I have Snip.Net for DSL.

That is fine if it really has cleared traffic of the dial up side down
yourn. Here it is not as fast.

I'll see if we have that here

what kind of pain is this when you bite? Does the pain seem to be coming
from the surface of the tooth or from inside the bone underneath? Is it
sharp or dull, and does it pulsate like your heartbeat?

Did the teeth hurt before and then the pain went away until now? What
about extreeme cold and hot on the teeth? What happens? Is there a
specific place you bite to produce that pain or is it anywhere on that
tooth? Put something hard between your tteeth like an uncooked pea and
try to find where it hurts the most.

The pain seems to be coming from the surface. It's a sharp pain, but no
it does not pulsate like my heartbeat. Most of time when I bite though,
it doesn't cause pain. The pain usually happens when I clench my jaw
together.

The teeth did not hurt before. Extreme cold and hot on the teeth does
not affect them all all. The pain is produced on the part of the tooth
that I bite with. It is the bottom tooth that is next to the molar.

Then my guess is that you have a fracture in part of the tooth's crown
somewhere. If it is not too bad, it can be repaired.
