Respected Sir,

I am a BDS 3rd year student from Chennai, India.  Recently, I have seen
a clinical case of my friend's father who lost his teeth number 22 &
23.  He wanted me to fabricate an RPD (without any framework, as he
needs to replace that with an FPD sooner).  The critical thing in
constructing the acrylic resin base is his lower anteriors are
impinging on the hard palate.  So, I should relieve that area.  I want
to know, the posterior extension of the denture base and the use of any
clasps (wrought wire claps only as it is temporary).  Your quick and
kind reply will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Vinay

Hi Vinay,

In the U.S. we have something known as a wedge case. If the fit is
right, it wedges right in there with no clasps at all. Not all of the
wedge cases work and if it does not "wedge" it will be useless. I
always tell the lab to "go easy... w-a-a-a-a-a-y easy" on trimming the
acrylic. Lemmmmmmeeeeeeeeee do it, I tell them.

Now if you have the luxury of processing in Valplast then its a piece
of cake. The Valplast springs and can be used as clasp material too.

I've got a case like this right now.  I'm going to try to make a
minimum thickness of acrylic and adjust the lower incisors
to facilitate clearance.

What I have found that works is to first trim the teeth
a tad so there is little undercut going in.

Then process acrylic leaving the shiny section
where the prosthesis contacts the model. Trim
gently, try in, trim gently, try in, etc.

Hello,

I don't want the lower anteriors to trim as they are already partially
attrited which get even worse when I trim them.  So, please suggest
some easier ways.  Thanks for your replies.

Regards,
Vinay.

Then use Valplast that will spring over them. By the way, the trimming
is done along the mesial or along the distal aspects ,,, done
carefully to avoid stripping too much enamel particularly near the
gingival. In fact, do not go near the gingival. A small nick will be
right into the dentin. The purpose is to "square off" the edentulous
space as the biting surface tends to tip mesio-distally.

Hi

the construction of lower denture as a temporary. Its going to improve bite
and occlusions and TMJ problems. You must know so if your father doesnt have
posterior teeth He needs 2 steps treatment. Temporary dentures is making
better adaptation and is putting to order bite.
You are making acrylic for exemple . Use conditioner for tissue treatmen and
fix the bite.
After this treatment you can make ordinary denture taking care of occlusion
.It depends on you what kind of denture you are going to make.

yes
take it by this way
Important is adaptation and time for patient and dentists.Of course the most
important treatment result. we must recognize "making" denture from
prosthodontic treatment

IOf he makes cheap temporary dentures and use conditioners or longer lasting
soft reline He has 2 advantages less time for correction, treatment effect ,
more comfort for patient.

Next If he makes more precise ordinary dentures . Its  effect and treatment
.
