Hi Richard!
I sure do!
I am posting this at a small low-traffic website where it will be scooped up into nntp and from there it will be syndicated around the world onto nntp, onto http, websites, vBulletin Boards, wireless RSS-Reader capable devices such as Blackberry, and Treo 650. I bet people waiting for the bus in the UK are reading this as I type it!.
People are welcome to post their stories at www.DentalCom.net.
Another personal story might gain some interesting perspective. A UK citizen was having untold problems, with dental diagnosis and treatment. Do you know what a kindly US dentist did? The dentist, Dr. Steve Mancuso of Troy Michigan offered the patient Andrew the opportunity to fly to the US on his own and Dr. Steve would use his advanced CAD-CAM technology, called CEREC to beautifully restore the teeth. Dr. Mancuso did this without charging the patient a penny! This was done in conjunction with the sci.med.dentistry study group.
So to search, you can use the keyword, "ANDREWSTEETH" and find the discussions.

I'm looking for people with moans about the state of dentistry in today's NHS. I've posted on here before (it's a story for the Sunday Times magazine), and I have spoken to a few dentists in the UK. But do you know of a way to put out the word for patients with tales of woe?
Many thanks,

Just a really crappy holistic-style dentist (from memory, correct me if I'm wrong). It's appalling that the case wasn't heard (or was thrown out, can't remember which) by the Professional Conduct Committee. </richard>

George Chatzipetros - 31 Aug 2005 00:38 GMT No, she was a NHS dentist who did composite fillings for Andrew on a private basis. She just did the fillings in the same extremely poor standard she used for her NHS work. As for the Professional Conduct Committee, at the time Andrew's complaint was dealt with I do not believe the GDC had the legal power to deal with a complaint about private treatment. Which is really appalling in its own and just shows that until now private dentistry was not even officially recognised by the NHS monopoly.

Thanks for the explanation :-). So would Andrew be able to put forward a complaint now that the rules have changed (thing is that he's in possession of the records, and presumable, this NHS dentist still has his records from 2002)?
Joel344 - 31 Aug 2005 12:09 GMT Thanks George and others!
Sadly, less-than-perfect dentistry exists all over the planet. Today's dentists appear to be more highly skilled than those of a previous generation, however, there are always exceptions. On the other side, I always marvel at how clever some of the dentists must be to craft such exquisite restorations!

Hi W_B, I've exchanged a few e-mails with Andrew. From the info I received, I concluded that the dentist was NHS, but of course the replacement of amalgams with composite fillings was done on a private basis. As to whether Andrew will be able to file a complaint now, maybe he'll have to wait a bit longer cause I don't know if the private complaint scheme is still in place. In any case, if there was a prior hearing I don't think the GDC will be willing to re-examine the case and they can't offer any compensation - you have to go to a court for that. The NHS dentist should still have his records.

How DentalCom.Net works
Another interesting feature of DentalCom.Net is that it automatically cleans up language. This is particularly useful when some young minds are following the discussion. I got to go over to DentalCom.Net and see how the thread appears over there .......
I am reading the uncensored, unedited, un-bowdlerized nntp Forte Free Agent version right now .....
JUSTIN: You got to add the word "GOT" to the list of censored words. There is no proper use of "GOT" in the English language! It is definitely not a substitute for "HAVE." So it should appear as "G**."
Some http sites such as www.MedKB.com (KnowledgeBase) edit out any superfluous comments or ads! W_B should appreciate that!
DEF. bowdlerize .... Edit by omitting or modifying parts considered indelicate.

>People are welcome to post their stories at www.DentalCom.net. People are also invited to get off their Royal British a.ses and get onto UseNet and post to the original nntp group alluded to by JME. The group is called

You need a News Reader to effectively access it and other UseNet groups. These are text based forums, as opposed to Web pages with nice little cartoons and pictures to keep the mentally feeble amused.
It should be clear that if a poster actually makes the effort to get a news reader for his or her operating system to access the SMD, s/he would have gained at least some respect from this poster. If another poster decides to access the SMD UseNet site from a Web based page, this poster would accordingly be less inclined to read it.
I know I am in a bitchy mood, but BLODDY HELL: if _I_ can find the SMD on UseNet using a news reader (the way it was DESIGNED to be accessed) then just about _anybody_ can.

What I'm gonna do with all this? The line is too long for my reader. If I don't replace the arrowheads manually, I cannot even respond to you. Many's the time I just don't bother. I cannot even wade through most of Sue's stuff.
> When the Catholic Church decided that the Mass was to be conducted > inEnglish, there were strong movements in the >U.S. of parishioners > whodeclared, "We want the Mass to be recited in >Latin, as it was meant > tobe said." I remember that. When I was an altar boy, the Mass was being said in Latin. When it switched to English, it stemmed some of the exodus of young people from the Church (for awhile... then came 1967 and Woodstock).
There was a need to shift it into English: high schools everywhere were dropping Latin from their curricula. I myself only had a nodding aquaintance with it in first year high school.
> Of course, another group arose insisting that the Mass be said inAramaic! Now, _that_ would have been a blast. We always knew _about_ the language of Jesus... We never heard it spoken and the priests didn't know it either.

A bigger question is whether religions evolve AWAY FROM ethical precepts. As far as I can tell, that is the only difference between a cult and a religion.
Heck even the Revolutionary George Washington soon became a reactionary, as soon as he seized power. Its the nature of the beast. Its also antithetical to the origins.

It will be a monumental step forward, and will have the effect of eliminating a lot of fraud going arond nowadays.
One of the next big steps is going to be sunglasses that project this stuff down the bottom of your visual field like bifocals. I think THAT will be a real step forward as well. Imagine having the map of a city projected that way so you can see it without taking your eyes off the road, having a delicate dental procedure be mapped out for you as you go in and do it; or even taking a 3D tour around your patients' mouths and pointing out the problems to them while they watch the same show... the possibilities are limitless.
> Nothing like the smell of fresh ponies rushing from town to town you > know .... oh for the days of the Pony Express! What happened to > America anyway? No more pony do-do to step in ......... no more > excitement in small town USA. America and the world HAVE to move on. Globally, we are between 2nd and 3rd base, and we cannot go back to 2nd. Our only salvation is advancing technology to the point where we are DE-polluting. That change and advancement is not what I am against at all.
It is more like this:
No one needs to have a College degree to use UseNet. One _does_ have to dig a bit to find it and use it properly, and I just feel that the quality of postings tends to reflect the mentality that goes with doing that. Once it is open to any Tom Dick and Blackberry on the web, we're going to lose quality. I do not mean to denigrate those of you who post from the Web. IMO, the best thought-out questions have come from posters on UseNet rather than from the Web. I _do_ mean to point out that with a couple of exceptions, there is more difficulty in reading messages from there, and I for one often gloss over them. JME, you know how to make your Web based postings intelligable to news readers; others don't, and it's obvious they're not even gonna take the time to figure it out. And of course, always, we don't all have high speed connections either.
Of course, this is just my own opinion.

Actually, how terrorists use the internet is frightening. People on the dark side should never be able to use our technology against us.

Fiscal spying.
Did you know that your own gov't has admitted to the capacity to record and browse through EVERY written word that passes through the wires on this entire planet?. I heard this on CDN public radio (the CBC). I think they could spend less time trying to catch Mom and Pop operations hiding 24.95$ from the taxman and going after the real terrorists.
It's either that or your government's bragging about its techlological prowess is exaggerated. Personally, however, I _do_ believe they can do that, and probably can do it with the spoken word as well. What they probably don't have is enough people to sift through the stuff.
Thanks SP

I will now tell you exactly in so many words just what I think of that individual. I have been thinking about it for quite some time... When we were on vacation, walking and being barked at by those ungentlemanly dogs along the way to the beach, I would have thoughts and meditations.
And then a bird would sh.t on my hat.
So, without further procrastination, the sum total of my thoughts about that individual are contained in this next paragraph:
<ahem... rustle papers...adjust glasses...>
Begin Paragraph....
/End Paragraph.
<whew!> Glad I got that off my chest.... !
Thank You Thank You... your applause is most kind....
