I just heard that they've asked for an evacuation of New Orleans. That
is pretty serious. The Florida PanHandle area is also targeted if not
hit by the time I write this.

I hope all of youse what are in that area are safe and away from harm's
way.

This seems to me to have been an unusually bad summer for storms.

Peace be with you

Well, this guy is safe from Katrina but I am just sick about what it is
doing to the Gulf coast right now.

Katrina is not supposed to be like this!  Katrina is not one of those
ferocious Cape Verde hurricanes, but one of those "no problem mon" hurricanes
that pop up out the Caribbean islands.  OK, lot's just say it, Katrina was
supposed to be an underachiever, a mere "rain event", a "blustery day" that was
supposed to cross Florida and possibly reform again into a class 1 'cane for the
gulf coast.  What we got was something far different.

    A supreme understatement.

Actually, we live a short stroll from what was the edge of the voluntary
evacuation area for Katrina when it crossed Florida.  At the last possible
moment, Katrina turned into a real 'cane and took a 30 mile jog away from us.
We didn't even lose our power.  The timing is odd, because as of last Tuesday,
we now live behind $15K worth of high impact windows.   That said, we still
would not remain in the path of a class 5 hurricane.  (OK; I might have to
remain on the job because I have to think of the public safety, but the wife
will be home in North Carolina.)

Thankfully, Katrina should have been a non-event for Steve's father.

Good. Nice to know that it spared you. It sure looked bad on the weather
channel last night.
