I'm starting to research for a new film processor. It must be able to do
pans because I'm a good while away from doing digital pans! I just want
something reliable, simple...nothing real fancy. I'm replacing an ancient
DentX  unit

Read an sales article recently...

The cheapest way to go digital pan is with phosphor plates.

YMMV

A Scan-X system that'll retrofit your pano and all other x-rays (0's
1's 2's & 3's) will run you about 18k to 20k with software. That's
lot more than a processor but there are other considerations

The average practice takes 75 x-rays per day; the practice is usuall
open four days per week and is open 48 weeks per year. This is equal t
14,400 x-rays per year or 57,600 x-rays within four years.

Add the costs of the processor, chemicals, film, labor, etc and goin
digital might be an option

I suspect it would be far cheaper to invest in a phosphor plate system
now, rather than bother with film and chemicals.  You just buy the
phosphor plate for your panX machine and keep running.
