Hello everyone again.

I know that I am here rarely, and always asking career advice of you all,
but maybe you can help me again...

I am in the UK by the way.

I am stuck between choices. I would love to become a Dentist. However I have
not got great science grades, so I would have to study science, get an
excellent mark, and then apply for dental school.  I am not sure if I am
capable of getting such good results in science - it would be hit or miss.

I have also just had an interview, and could be offered the position of
Trainee Dental Nurse. I would have my qualification study paid for while I
work. This would take about a year - the same amount of time as my science
course. But of course I will be getting experience straight away.

However I cant work out if becoming a dental nurse will in anyway help me in
being admitted to dental school - as in, would it mean that I would be
allowed in without taking the science course, or with a lower grade in the
science course?

The course in question is an Access To Science course, which Bristol Dental
School has told me it would consider alongside "at least 4 weeks practical
experience". And thats still only a minimum.... what do I do for the best?

Please help me on this matter I want to do well, I have a lot of respect for
this whole career sector and just want to make the most that I can of it. I
am intelligent enough a person, just not sure if I can translate it into the
paper marks that I need.

Thanks for help in advance,
Mark.

I know one guy that has studied for his Alevels at night and held a day job.
A-levels have got a lot easier, so it shouldn't be too hard.
Academically I think that there are a lot harder degrees. My brother is
studying pharmacy (4yr MPharm programme) and the stuff that they are doing
is very intense. With Medicine and Dentistry a lot of it is actually
memorising stuff esp. anatomy, but in pharmacy it is more application.

At 25yrs, it shouldn't be a barrier.

Try Sheffield, they encourage applications from mature students.

Thanks for the info, duely noted.
I shall write to admissions at Sheffield, and see what they have to say. It
looks like a good school.

Regards, Mark.
