Thanks bunches to those of you who responded to my semi-coherent cry for
help the other day.  You made me feel much better, and I was at least
confident that I wasn't going to DIE before seeing my dentist today.

Turns out that I had dry socket on both lower extraction sites.  They packed
it with some fibrous stuff containing clove oil, and . . . <sigh!> . . . It.
Feels.  Great.  This was easily my best dental visit ever!  It's actually
something of a relief to know that there really was a problem and I wasn't
just being a total weenie about the pain.

I know that ignorant people such as myself dread dental work, and therefore
going to their dentists' offices, but I'm at home right now just thanking my
lucky stars that you guys and your technology exists.  Thank you for being
dentists/oral surgeons/people in the dental profession!

(Oh, my oral surgeon didn't exactly "pick on" me for not calling him over
the long weekend, but he did say how silly I was and how easily he could
have fixed it if I'd only called him.  That whole office is just full of
sweet people!)

A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter or waitress is NOT a nice
person.
(This is very important.  Pay attention.  It never fails.)

Usually we can tell pretty quick if you need to be seen after a few
questions.  And.......  I told you to call.  Glad it wasn't a serious
infection.

Probably too vigorous swilling with that mouthwash you talked of
using.

I "swilled" only in the most dainty and ladylike of manners, of course.

Actually, I was hesitant to do even what I did:  put the rinse in my mouth
and tilt my head around until all the extraction sites had been "rinsed",
then lean my head forward and (not so daintily or in such a ladylike manner)
let gravity remove the icky gunk without my having to spit.

I asked my oral surgeon and he said that since of the three risk factors
(smoking, hormonal birth control measures, over 30) only the "over 30" one
applied to me, that it might just be my age making me susceptible.  I
followed my post-op instructions to the letter because I SOOOO wanted to
avoid this . . .
