I had alot of drilling done on my two front teeth over the years and the last
time my dentist recommended getting a root canal in #9 (that tooth was in worse
shape than the other front tooth), crown lengthening and crowns
put on. Since the teeth seemed to be in deteriorating condition, it seemed like
the right thing to do.
I had the root canal done and it was not a pleasant procedure, but was okay.
I then had the crown lengthening done. A couple of days later I had bleeding (
the periodonist called it oozing) and he had to redo alot of his work.
Since that time I've had quite a bit of pain and discomfort around the area.
The periodontist admitted he didn't know what had caused the oozing, but
I haven't had any bleeding since (it's now 2.5 days later).
Is the pain normal for a crown lengthening and how long should I expect it to
last?? I've been prescribed Vicodin for the pain.

This seems unusual, but not unheard of. I've heard of painful healing
after procedures in the posterior (back teeth) more than the anterior,
but when you have surgery done, it is often painful afterwards.
Why did the Perio have to redo his work and what did he redo, exactly.
Were these teeth painful to biting before you had the Root Canal done?
I'm thinking that the bone is inflammed. Why? This is why it would be
instructive to know what symptoms your front teeth had before the recent
work was started.
