Use of Arestin

Can I get an opinion as to whether Arestin is worth
the cost when treating periodontal disease? I've had
deep cleaning and scaling before the use of Arestin
was popular and was shocked to hear of it's high
cost. The hygienist quoted me $90 for 3-4 areas of
each tooth needing the treatment (hope I worded that
correctly.) Also....is periodontal disease really just
an infection of some sort?

It's expensive stuff sells to dentists for about $15 per pop
so the going rate is about $20-35/(gingival pocket).
