Cracked Teeth Question

I just had three mercury fillings removed a month ago and replaced with
white fillings.  Two of those fillings have now developed cracks.  One
is right down the middle.  I am a 36 year old male and have had one
other crack in the past.  Do you think my dentist should be responsible
for this problem?  Or is it just unlucky.

Thanks.

Fillings shouldn't crack in a month.  Unless you're doing something
very, very unusual, I think the dentist should make it right.

Mebbe.  Or mebbe the amalgams had held up just fine for many years.

When someone comes in and says "mercury fillings", you know they have been
fed a bucket-full of marketing.  Good mechanics seldom resort to scare
tactics.

If you have an interference engine (i.e.: Valves and Pistons occupy same
space at times...thus timing is critical)...the scare tactics are somewhat
valid. Replacing a timing belt is cheap...replacing an engine is not!

Do you know what happens when one fails ?

Recently replaced the timing belt on the MR2
as a preventive measure, was having other stuff
done. Mancuso rode in it, man were his eyes
big as saucers when I stomped on it.

He probably wouldn't have been quite as scared if you had stayed off the

Say your auto needed a new water pump.

A prime time to also change the timing belt.
1) easier to get to (less labor cost)
2) an ounce of prevention...

If you guys would just get a nice 2-stroke SAAB, you would not have to worry
about this.  No timing belt (no timing chain either), [heck, no valves].
Water pump sits on the back end of the generator so it is not even attached
directly to the engine.  They even came with over-head fan shafts.

My four-wheeler can outrun your Saab.

2-stroke = high revs, power band

4-stroke = low end torque

Oh yeah, I don't think there is a such thing as a "nice" 2-stroke Saab....

You are just jealous since I can sit 4 people in my 4-stoke vehicle
and come out warm and dry in rainstorms or snow storms. Unless it
never snows in DC.

Isn't an MR@ about the size of a skateboard anyway?

However.....if a dentists puts in a couple of fillings that
both fail in a month or so, do you really think the same guy
putting two new fillings in those same teeth will have better
results?

A foul smell in the air?

I would hope there is more than one dentist in town.

If the amalgams were replaced just for the heck of it, something is wrong.

If the amalgams were replaced due to decay and/or cracks it's hard to
tell.  If that were the case, you should have had a conversation about
possible risks and consequences.
