hi.. First time reader, first time poster.
5 days ago, I had a lower rear molar prepped for a crown. The Temporary
crown was cemented into place, and I went on my way. The temporary crown
won't stay on. It's been re-cemented 3 times since then, each time with
stronger cement. The gum is now raw, and I'm in constant pain.
Needless to say, I'm quite concerned about the permanent crown, and if the
cement is going to keep it on the tooth. Should I be worried? I know it's
rare for a temp to keep falling off, but what about permanent crowns?

Stove B. would have me say "what is a temporary?"
More seriously, one has no bearing on the other. Don't worry about
it.

It's Monday now and the guy made it through the weekend, so let's split
a few hairs <G>.
An ill fitting or poorly retained temporary *could* be a sign that the
dentist isn't doing a great job. The prep could also lack retention for
the permanent crown.
While a bad experience with the temporary does not always lead to
problems with the final crown, it could raise a few flags.

Certainly,,,,,,, but have you ever made a crown on a short wide tooth that
would not hold a plastic temporary no matter what you did, but held the FGC
forever?
Anyway, I don't think I make 2-3 temporaries a year now.

Hi Everyone!
Well, I got my permanent crown on Tuesday (Tooth 47), and it seems to be
holding. However there was a LOT of pain and discomfort then he placed the
crown on the tooth. It came when he pressed DOWN on the tooth, partly from
the tooth, but a lot of burning on the gums. He said that the gums around the
tooth were extremely irritated. I noticed today that when I used the tooth to
bite on something, there was a little pain, and some referred pain in the
gums between 2 other teeth as well. The tooth pain seemed to come from the
pressing down on the crown. It passed after a few minutes, I'm ASSUMING that
this is happening because of where the tooth is, and because the gums are
tender around the site
How long should I expect this to linger before I go back to the Dentist and
have him check things out?
The problem with the Temporary crown was it was riding a little high on the
back. I've had 2 other crowns from the same dentist, and this is the first
time I've had this kind of trouble.
Thanks!
