Hi,
I have just bought some 35% Carbamide Peroxide Whitening agent from
ebay. I was wondering if this is generally safe to use? I have read no
bad reports, after a quick web search, although I have read that people
with sensitive teeth may suffer some irritation.

My teeth are not that badly stained, although a little yellow. I was
thinking of applying the product tonight. Are there any issues I should
be aware of?

Thanks.
Steve

How are you applying it?  How are you going to prevent gingival burns?

    Two problems:
1) Carbamyl peroxide is unstable.  I think it's unlikely that it is
fresh--it should be refrigerated.  The bleaching agents from reputable
suppliers have expiration dates on it.
2) I have never used carbamyl peroxide gels over 15% concentration--and
that is in a custom-made tray.  If you DO actually have 35% carbamyl
peroxide, it is quite caustic and (as Dr. Steve M inplies) can really
irritate your gums if you get any on it.  When used in a tray, gels this
concentrated have the potential to make your teeth quite sensitive too.

Hi,
It comes with a plastic gum shield which you melt around the shape of
your gums.

There is no expiry date on the gel itself.

I for one would really like to see how you're going to do that in a safe
and secure fashion. In my opinion putting more than about 15-18 percent
peroxides on your teeth/gums is bloody crazy.

Is there any way you can post the link to this web page where you saw
this stuff? Maybe there is more info.

WHY are you not in posession of an info and fact sheet explaining the
risks and how to proceed?

Beware!!!!

IS IT SAFE??

That's a famous line from the movie, "Marathon Man." The movie has one
of the most memorable dental scenes of all time.

Rent it and tell Dustin Hoffman not to use a DMO dentist next time.

...
.... and the same tyoe of thing just may happen to your gum tissue. The
concentration of peroxides you have is what we use to do bleaching in
the dentist's chair with a mask on the gums. Again: I think this is
unethical and dangerous, and I'd like to know who is selling it.

BTW: does anyone know what kind of drill Lawerence Olivier used in that
scene? Black & Decker would be my guess, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks
