I recently had an abscessed tooth removed and have noticed that a
persistent scalp condition I thought was some form of dermatitis has
improved. Is it possible the abscess was causing/aggravating my scalp
problem?

I would never say never, but it seems unlikely in the extreme to me
(unless you were taking a medication for the tooth long-term, and had
developed a dermatologic reaction to that.
