Sdores - 19 May 2005 10:38 GMT I think this is so wrong! UM MOM Susan
From Joel M. Eichen
Yes Jan Drew pulled one of her stunts again.
If sci.med.dentistry is Jan Drew's turf, and she decides who is lying about amalgam, then that says lots about what people are free to post.
You are welcome to post this. Thanks for your concern!

Vaughn - 19 May 2005 11:06 GMT >I think this is so wrong! Of course it is. JD can no more keep JE off any unmoderated news group than we can keep JD off. There are a million ways around the gate guards.
Sdores - 19 May 2005 11:48 GMT Well I find this very upsetting and I don't know Joel like you do. He has just helped me like others of you have with questions I have had. The bragging about it yesterday was what made me ask him if all was ok. UM MOM Susan

Hello Susan!
Yes, I just read the thread at www.deja.com. Thanks for relaying the message. I have been busy with a few other projects and have been away from the computer for this entire week. Vaughn is correct in that I can certainly set up another account and get right back into the discussions.
However, newsgroups (NNTP) were designed as an alterantive, free-opinion, means of communcation. People are free to hold whatever belief they choose. If someone believes the earth is populated by Little Green Martians, so be it. We are also free to discuss and debate why this may not be accurate.
Along comes Jan Drew who hollers "LIAR" who believes all the dentists are in denial.
No problem there. We answer speech with more speech. However, ISPs and NNTP server organizations are not in the business of adjudicating disputes. They do not care who is right and who is wrong. If there are complaints, they simply X out an account. So be it. This is fair. However, this is NOT the spirit in which nntp was designed.
What is not fair and what is not appropriate is Jan Drew's behavior to SILENCE dissent and to silence anyone who criticizes her. I noticed that Jan LIED to imply that I am using her name in some way. I guess the time has come to consider that we have discussed all we can discuss. Its been a great run, but dealing with misinformation and dealing with aberrant personalities such as Jan Drew have lost their appeal.
Please post this as further explanation. Thanks again.

If I would be free to tell my opionion so why is it then that I was attacked as a person and not the opinion itself? Why is it then that facts are neglected at first and after 5 posts admitted at last? Why does everything new I tell have to be wrong?
The discussions and debates often tend to be accusations and insults and sound aggressive.
This is not very open minded.
To Joel and Jan; this seems to me and old long lasting war, like neighbours in a small town complaining about the greener grass of the others. This will never end i think.

I explained that the NHS wants to avoid spending money for amalgam replacements. And I explained that dentists make money out of amalgam. When asked to make white fillings or healthier or what ever. Many will replace amalgam when asked. This is no attack on people not sharing my opinion.
Is this an accousation? No it's just fact, at least over here. If you say this isn't true for US, I'll accept this.

carabelli - 19 May 2005 23:44 GMT Hello doc,
I am trying to use English that is easy to understand.
You should continue to post and read here. Sometimes the introduction is not pleasant when someone decides to start posting frequently. That is the way usenet works. Let us get to know you. You should try to get to know us also. It can be a good thing for both of us. The only thing that should happen when opposing points of view is learning.

The Webby - 20 May 2005 16:00 GMT Freedom of speech has limitations. In usenet, as long as a person has an account, that person can "speak" *almost* whatever the person desires. The trouble is, sooner or later, the audience will become so small that it's as good as no one "listening".
I am a "non-listener" because the poster "speaks" nothing worth my efforts to "listen". Seeing words on my monitor is completely different from "reading and listening" to the thoughts/ideas of the poster.

People who respect themselves view selfishness, loss of self-discipline, recklessness, cowardice and dishonesty as wrong and unworthy of them. They have inner strength and are unwilling to let others use or manipulate them. They know that showing patience or tolerance does not mean allowing others to mistreat them.

Hah, here is a funny story. (Note I am not making fun of anyone or implying that dogs should be treated inhumanely)
As I posted before, once while playing tennis i was nearly attacked by a German sherpard for no reason. Turns out I had a white raquet and the owner said the dog was hit with a white raquet as a puppy.
What I didn't say is after the incident I told one person the story and added. "Whatever you do don't show up at the tennis court with a white raquet. You will be attacked by the German Shepard".
The next the person showed up, not only with a white raquet, but white headband, white shorts ,white sneakers, and a white shirt. Luckily the dog wasn't there but that person reminds of Joel.
