I finally found a great, young Endodentist.. Last Oct. She did a Root
Canal(part 1) in 2 days.. paid in cash..I praised her.. recommended
her,, etcetc.
Then,..a very Blizzardy winter closed our roads, and I had to cxl the
next 2 visits.(giving plenty of notice...
I n March I made another appt. but had emergency Angioplasty, and even
called from the CCU 3 days before the appt. so they could schedule
another patient.

When I called to make an appt. for the Post and Crown.. I was told :"
Bcs. of your history of cancellations, we won't see you.. we'll do 1
emergency appt. (bcs the temp.filling is leaking")

I'm devastated bcs.. it's hard to find a capable Dentist I feel
comfortable with.. (Had had 2 bad experiences with verbally abusive male
Dentists..so now I'm mor apprehensive about the rejection and further
search.. than I am about the tooth!!

Is there anything one of you can suggestI say to her to convince her to
keep me as a patient??  I even offerred to pay EXtra!
and I'm a really nice, polite lady..
This is so strange to me...

Thanks in advance..

Since you seem to think that we are all up at 2:00 am EST, instead of in bed getting enough rest for the next day, I doubt you are a serious poster.

No Dr. Steve.. I'm a night worker. and was very desperate for an
answer.. Excuse me if I stepped on a sore spot.. I was just disappointed
at the amount of nasty barbs being slung back and forth amongst you all.
Dr Steve - 17 May 2005 19:49 GMT
No excuse for being angry with us for not getting up out of bed to respond to your posting.  Sorry, but other people recognize that if they work night shift, other people do not.  Were you sober when you typed your messages?

Hi,
I heard it is common in some offices to cancel long appointments until
the patient is extimated reliable again. Since you have canceld often in
a row this makes you look bad as a patient.

But normaly you would be treated fully again after some appointments.

This is some way of managment. Since there are patients allways
canceling their appointments. For the dentist strictly working with
appointsments the time planned for you was wasted since no other patient
was available for treatment.

So by cancelling you caused some severe finacial damge. And as your
dentist is youg she might not have much patients to cover the damage.

In germany it would be legal to charge you anyways, no matter if where
treated. But this depends on the time span before the appointment. In
most cases when cancelling within 48hours before the appointment a fee i
charged.

So these are my guesses.

I just had a patient cancel today's 90 minute appointment for the third time
in a row.  At about $240/hour overhead, you can figure out how much this has
cost me so far.  Fortunately the RDH will be busy to offset about a third of
that cost.  Guess who is not going to get another appointment?

The ist of 2 appts. I had to cxl was bcs of a blizzard and  everyone in
our County including her) was instructed to stay off the roads.....The
2nd I cxld 3 or 4 days before Heart surgery..which was 6 days beforethe
appt.

When I saw her, I did ask if I could pay for the missed appts.. pay in
advance.. or do anything to remain her patient...
She said "Nope". and that the x-ray showed there was no leakage or
infection..But she prescribed 800mg Morin for pain, Clindamycin "in
case".. and looked very depressed.. She'd recently had a baby.(who was
being fed in the waiting room by the Receptionist..). maybe it's
Post-Partum an she doesn't intend to practice very long..

I figure everything happens for the best... and I'll just find someone
with more experience and "Chairside Manner"

and, if the X-ray shows the filling's ok and there's no infection I can
relax, right?.

That is entirely reasonable, yes.

I think you may have something there: if she is not reasonable about
re-inserting you into the practice after you demonstrate 'good faith',
then SHE is the problem at this point.

At least, now you know what you're looking for. A bit of hunting by
phone will give you an idea of what the team is like. You may even ask
the secretary to describe the type of dentist her boss is, and perhaps
ask to interview the dentist  by phone. It only takes a few minutes. I
have had this done to me many times: The patient will phone with some
specific ailment or other, and she describes the thing, and then just
sits back and lets me talk. What they really want is to evaluate the
dentist, or they would already be at the front desk for a walk-in
appointment. That's OK. It takes me all of four minutes to establish
rapport with the lady or not. If it doesn't click, we both move on. I
don't mind this a bit, but my secretary HATES it. I don't know why: the
lady wants to establish a contact and see how it feels. You can do the
same. Just be sure to suggest that the dentist call you back when the
rush is off. Otherwise, the secretary will try to protect the schedule
and not let the dentist know until s/he is ready to leave for the day.

For now, yes. The tooth may act up farther down the road, but only the
gods can know that.

Cheers
