My guess is its is normal depending
on "how loose." I will ask an orthodontist
friend at sci.med.dentistry and will report
back here soon.

      Can Someone Help??????

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just noticed my 8 year old daughter's permanant front tooth is
slightly loose. She's has a palate expander and were done turning it for
good. Is this normal for a tooth to become loose?

quick reply - need to retire for the night - full platter tomorrow.

Normal mobility can provoke anxiety in many mothers -  not an accusation
just an observation. They never checked this out before and now of
course............  How long ago was activation of the appliance ( assuming
a jack screw expander) ceased?  A central is adjacent to the newly opened
midpalatine suture.  Orthodontic mobility is always more than normal
mobility.

So basically, I can't tell from here.  Have the ortho check it out - I have
a lot of those " better safe than sorry" visits and send them home with a
pat on the back..  IMHO prolly no biggee.

Thank you Joel and Carabelli! In response to the following:

How long ago was activation of the appliance ( assuming a jack screw
expander) ceased? A central is adjacent to the newly opened midpalatine
suture. Orthodontic mobility is always more than normal mobility

The last, and final, activation of the Pendex was on Thursday of this
week and the orthodontist turned the screw twice during the appointment.
Since it is a central incisor, I feel confident that the mobility of the
tooth is normal.

Thank you again. Her orthodontist and dentist are unavailble this
weekend, except for emergencies, and I didn't feel this warrented disturbing
them. Your help was very much appreciated!!!

      Thanks!

Thanks Joel! I truly appreciate your help! Her tooth is at the point
where I can visibly see movement back and forth when she uses her finger but
not loose enough that her tongue could move it. Since it's a permanant
central incisor, I'm worried about it. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again!

     P.S. Love your avatar!
