The doc has put me on Penicillin for my broken tooth toothache, until I
can get in to get it pulled.  How long should the antibiotic take to
start relieving the pain?

thanks,
Nickolas

Penicillin interferes with cell division. The average life of a bacterial
cell is a couple days (depends on the species, and I can't remember back to
my college days. I'm thinking 4-5 days).

You should start to feel relief in 2-3 days. However, it is essential to
take the medication for the full time prescribed.  After a couple days, you
still have bacteria who are in the early stages of growth. If you stop
taking the meds, the infection will come back much worse than before.

Injected anaesthetics don't work as well in the case of infection, so it is
important to treat the infection for this reason, also.
