I'm having a periodontist place 6 implants in my lower jaw.
Once these have healed and been uncovered,he said he will refer
me back to my general dentist for the bar attachment and prosthetics.
Is it normal/routine for the general dentist to
make the impression, check bar attachment for fit and place it?

Thanks
Steve

Yup.

Joel

If I may ask what is your total bill?

IMPLANT PLACEMENT _ _ _ _ _

DENTURE _ _ _ _

Implant placement (6) + 5 extractions + IV sedation + 1 bone graft by
the perio is $9988. I have an appointment next week with the generalist
to discuss and get an estimate for a temporary denture, bar attachment
and permanent overdenture.

Absolutely--either a general dentist or a prosthodontist.  This should
NOT be done by the surgeon.
I'm assuming this treatment plan was worked out between your dentist
and the periodontist.  Six fixtures for an overdenture is more than I've
used.

Depending on the location of the six and what is opposing. I might be
considering fixed rather than removable with six implants .

Yes.... let us hope they will be assymetrically placed...

The six are being placed at teeth 19,21,23,26,28 and 30 and are
to have a bar attachment. Uppers are being restored with crowns
and bridges. I have an overbite. Does that affect the options.??

Good potential for implant supported bridge on the lower. Might be worth your
while to visit a prosthodontist for a consult.

Six does seem like a lot for a bar/removable setup.  Could be that there is
a major need for lip support and/or alveolus replacement.

Yes. A periodontist is trained in the surgical placement of the
implants. For the construction of attachments, abutments, bridges or
dentures for the implants, you need a general dentist or a
prosthodontist.
