Ok this is wierd...

Woke up one day earlier this week to find I had very mild tooth ache - not
really painful - more uncomfortable, a bit like I had some tinfoil on a
filling but nothing like that bad. I made mental note to see dentist but it
went away after a few hours. Next day the mild pain is back but this time
it's in the top jaw not the bottom and again it goes away after a few hours.
Now my wifes got it! She managed to get a slot at the dentist within two
hours. The dentist probed her tooth and gave her an x-ray but could find
nothing wrong and told her to come back if the pain didn't go away - her
pain is also reducing.

Heard anything like this before?

Presumably you mean the teeth do the clenching not the husband and wife?

It seems my wife has a cracked tooth. It didn't show up on the x-ray but she
had the filling taken out and the dentist could see the crack on both sides.
Tooth very much alive and she's been told to make an apointment with a
specialist.

What's an NTI?

Her Dutch speaking dentist says the specialist will need to do a "Wortel
Behanheling van 37" which I believe is a root canal. She's been told the
apointment will take two hours which seems a long time but perhaps it's not
a straight forward job.

This device would protect her teeth and prevent further similar injuries.
