I'm the one with incomplete and seriously worn dentition.
You might remember me from such subject lines such as:
Implants, partials, Another case, and ...
Who owns my mouth molds
I've been to see my prosthedontic clinic and the news wasn't good.
Not so easily fixed with two or three bridges.

Some of you picked up suspicious signs on the xray, and sure enough one tooth
has already started death throes. Judging by the sensitivity and redness the
pulp seems to be dying.
His plan for retaining most of my teeth costs far too much for me to afford:
$50,000+ without even factoring in edodontic stabilisation therapy before
anything can start, and maintenance and review costs.
I have asked him to therefore come up with another plan that will involve more
radical extraction and restoration of key teeth as support partial dentures.
His clinical findings report makes sobering reading:
"Essentially Cl 1 (class 1?) occlusion with a deep overbite and sever tooth wear.
Lateral excursive movements lack canine guidance..."
"Incomplete dentition - missing teeth 18, 15 (UR 3rd molar and 2nd premolar),
26, 27 (UL 1st and 2nd molars). Some tooth drift ... over eruption (tooth 16)
and unusual contact arrangements (16 mesial drift)."
"Roller coaster occlusal planes ... Widely differing tooth/crown heights..."
"Periapical condition of a number of teeth requires further investigation.
Note furcation involvement of tooth 17 and periapical areas of tooth 16."
"Limited sinus bone in the edentulous area between 25 and 28 (ULeft)..."
"IDN looks well positioned and quite deep..."
"Endodontic issues associated with a number of teeth ..."
"Freeway space of 7mm..."
"Exceptionally heavily restored dentition, many teeth are essentially all
filling above the gingival level. Note pulpal implications of this - 'stressed
pulp'."
He did allow me to keep a mouth casting. That has been useful.
So I shall await a further less expensive treatment plan. Meanwhile tooth 16 is
now causing me pain, and requiring opening up for root treatment.

I'm now looking at full denture options. Before I extract all my teeth, how
feasible is it to retain the roots of a couple key ones per mandible as anchor
points for dentures? What are the options for full dentures with some supports?
And what are the options for artificil teeth material?

Yup, especially on the lower, less so on the upper.
Why not post x-rays to the internet? This is the age of the 'puter! Why not?

The tooth I would need to retain is 16, the over erupted one.
I's now due for RCT.
(numbering 1= upper left, 6th from centre)

Okay, tooth #3 in western talk. Upper right first molar.
How many other upper teeth remain? If that's it, then yank it. An upper
denture fits by providing suction against the upper (now edentulous) palate.
One single tooth will ALWAYS interfere with that.
