Need A Tooth - 27 Mar 2005 06:03 GMT
OK, here's the deal.  At age 39, I had a baby tooth that finally abcessed and
was extracted, with no replacement tooth behind it.  The adjoining 1st
bicuspid is virgin, so I have decided on getting an implant.  I need to wait a
few more weeks before I can even go in for the initial consultation, but I am
curious as to the entire time frame that would be involved.  I go away from
home a lot, and I would like to get an idea of when I would need to be at home
for followup appointments or any complications, etc.  Thanks

You have to wait 4-6 weeks after extraction for implant placement. You
need to 5-6 months for the implant to integrate to your bone (lowers
take less time because the bone is denser). After the 5-6 months, you
need second stage surgery to expose the implant. 2-3 weeks later an
impression is made and 2-3 weeks later the tooth is ready.

You can have a temporary partial made for this 6-8 months for less than
$1000.

I would recommend the implant, I have 4 and am waiting on the impression.

Or a Monodont non-removable for temporary placement.
