    Clarendon National writes:
"...Clarendon has recently discovered that Dent-Pro continued to sell or
renew Dental Professional Liability Policies with policy effective dates
AFTER December 31, 1996 without authorization from Clarendon.  We are
writing to you because Clarendon has information which indicates that
you may hold an unauthorized policy issued by Dent-Pro after this
general agent's authority was terminated as of December 31, 1996..."

Now, I'm no genius.  But if they've continued to accept premium checks
and issue policies for the eight years since then, it seems a little
funny to suddenly wake up and inform us that we used an unauthorized agent.
The capper is that they claim they havent received out last payments,
and Dent Pro cannot be contacted.
We are in touch with the state insurance department.

    Just to follow up:
Apparently our e-payments to the (allegedly unauthorized) broker were
never actually paid, so our fears of having been ripped off appear to be
unfounded.
We'll be looking for a new carrier before the end of the year.  If
anyone out there has good experiences with their carriers, I'd like to
hear about it.  Feel free to contact me off-group--preferably at the
office e-mail, bornfeld@dentaltwins.com

When I graduated and received my license I suddenly needed insurance
in a hurry. I had the opportunity to work right away. I chose Medical
Protective for no special reason. Years later when the malpractice
crises occurred, Medical Protective was the only company that stayed
in Michigan. all the other carriers  refused to renew policies and
left thousands of dentists with no coverage. their loyalty to us has
made me loyal to them.

Thanks.  I'll have to check and see if they write policies in NY State.
