SMILE EVERY CHILD IN SCOTLAND TO BE GUARANTEED NHS DENTAL TREATMENT
Mar 10 2005

By Magnus Gardham

EVERY child in Scotland is to be guaranteed access to an NHS dentist
as part of a landmark shake-up of services.

Ministers are expected to announce the move next week as part of a
reform which will ultimately see health service dentists available to
everyone, regardless of age.

Deputy health minister Rhona Brankin said: 'We need to ensure that
from the time young people are born they have got the best chance in
life of having good oral health.'

The shake-up is in response to the crisis which has left thousands of
Scots without access to an NHS dentist.
