Bad tooth = Bad taste?

Can a bad tooth be producing a bad taste in my mouth?  The dentist does
not see anything wrong with that tooth, but other options have been
elimiated (sinus, etc.)  Will a root canal possibly take care of this
bad taste?  I also have a dull pain in that area all the time.
Antibiotics lessen the pain and taste, but they return as soon as I
finish the dosage.
Thanks for any advice.
