Whitening A Chipped Tooth

I recently chipped a front tooth.  I've been thinking of whitening my
teeth (or, more accurately, my wife has been thinking about whitening my
teeth), so I was thinking of whitening it (with Crest paint-on overnight
stuff) before I have a filling put in, so the filling can match the new,
hopefully whiter shade.

Will whitening a chipped tooth cause a bad thing to happen, or is it
okey-dokey?

Thanks,

Richard
