Under #20...hurts like heck when I swallow.....Started amox 500mg 3x
yesterday.. How long should it take before I notice some improvement....
Extraction site isn't as sore as the lymph node. Does it usually respond to
amox?

Thanks, Ken

An inflamed lymph node related to the extraction of #20 will not make
it hurt to swallow--you probably have a cold.

Steve, I had a bad infection in this tooth as a result of a break.  The gum
was badly swollen on the inside of the tooth and it hurt to the touch if you
pushed under your jaw upwards.  The node is right next to the pojnt of
soreness.
I am quite sure this is drainage of the infection.  That is what my endo and
surgeon both said.

It may well be.  My point is that this should not cause pain to
swallowing--unless you had so much swelling that the floor of the mouth
had risen.

Yes IME an infected submandibular lymph node
due to an infected tooth will eventually respond
to Amoxil.

However, I prefer using Ampicillin 2x stat, and
4x/day (q6h) for faster response and better infection
control.

Call your practitioner and ask if it is OK for you to take
your Amoxil 4x/day.
