Most antibiotics are equal in strength.  The trick is using the right
antibiotic for the particular 'bug' that you want to kill.  For dental
infections, Penicillin is usually the drug of choice *IF* there is
really a sign that antibiotics are indicated in the first place.

Strength is a misnomer with antibiotics.

Joel

Extra-STRENGTH Excedrin ... okay.

EXTRA-Strength penicillin, .... depends which buggie you are.

That's bad advice ........ but if you have Dentail work it may become
a pain in the butt.

Let the doctor decide if it is necessary.
Don't self medicate.

Is that dental or denial work ?

Here's a little education about antibiotics.
The most effective antibiotic is relative to the organism
that is causing a particular infection, and the location
of said infection.

Most infections are not cultured and tested for antibiotic
susceptiblility unless the infection in question does not
respond to previous antibiotic treatments.

This is why they call it the 'practice' of medicine,
there is some art involved, and the practitioners experience
in treating various maladies is very important.

So to answer your question simplistically:
There is no such thing; the antibiotic used to treat
an infection is dictated by the organism(s) causing the
infection.

Heard of the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus yet ?
Read about it in SI last week, not a great medical treatise,
but good enough to cover the subject for the layman.

Seems to be a problem amongst professional athletes.
Especially football (american) players.

But it was in Sports Illustrated.

Haven't read Sprots yet, is it about potatoes ?

I bet it's because they need chronic antibiotics because of the chronic
steroids they are on. They would then naturally favor the growth of MRSA
and other bugs.

Waddn't in the Swim Suit issue.... at least I didn't see it there before
the guy kicked me out of the magazine store.... Hey, I like to inspect
every page of a mag before I buy it....
