About a year ago I had a root canal done on my rear, left, bottom molar,
which also required the rebuilding of large portion (including below gum
line) of the tooth due to a long period of decay. The tooth was capped
shortly afterward. At that time, my dentist also noted that one of my lower
front teeth would also require a root canal (x-rays showed a slight dark
area at the base of the tooth). As I can only afford so much dentistry each
year, this tooth has yet to be treated.
A while later I started getting some sinus problems (felt like post-nasal
drip) and my throat would occasionally bother me (tightness, "lump in the
throat" feeling). Over the next few months the problem would come and go
and was only a slight bother. The past few months however the problems has
become more pronounced. Also I've started to feel tired and a little weak,
with occasional slight light-headedness. As well, I'm occasionally getting
a tightness in my jaw (no difficulty moving my jaw, just a feeling of being
taut).
I recently had a specialist check out my throut. He found nothing
physically wrong after looking down my throat. As I have been under some
stress for the past couple months due to my mother being diagnosed with lung
cancer and her recent passing, he suggested that I was experiencing throat
muscle spasms due to stress. Apparently this is quite common and usually
subsides in time.
However, I'm not convinced my symptoms are unrelated to my teeth. I will be
consulting my dentist soon, however any suggestions here would be greatly
appreciated.

I have no idea about YOUR teeth but I have never heard these symptoms
related to teeth, root canals, etc. Sorry.
If I were you I would begin again with a new medical doctor and
recheck out what's going on.

Dave,
There are a few dental related problems that could cause these
symptoms. It may have been precipitated by the stress of your mother's
illness. (I tend to blame many of my own problems on my mother ;-).
See if you can find a dentist who is comfortable treating myofacial
pain or TMJ. Your problem may not be related, but a dentist who can
recognise and treat myofacial pain can diagnose whatever else may be
wrong. Up front, this can be a moderately expensive problem, but being
comfortable is priceless.
