How to find the best dentist?

I need about $ 20,000 worth of implants. I narrowed it down to three
implantologists (dentists who do mostly implant/restorative work).

What criteria can I use to make a final decision? Their fees are very
similar (within a few hundred dollars).

What are the authentications of a competent dentist?

Advertising? Maybe the least aggressive advertising would point to the most
reliable/competent dentist? They all sound competent but also somewhat glib.

It's very difficult to tell.  You may have already found three very
competent individuals.  You might think about which office had the
friendliest, most attentive staff.  Who made you feel more at ease?
Were you able to see pictures of some of their work?

If I think someone is shopping around for the 'best' dentist, I get
less interested in the case.  I've got enough work to do where patients
have made a decision to seek out my care without me jumping through
hoops and "selling" my abilities.  I'm polite, but I list my
recommendations,
my estimated fees, answer any questions, and that's about it. I am
not going to sound like I'm running for political office.

If these guys are good and quite busy, they will be less inclined to
put on a big show just to 'sell' another case.  They want a patient
to want them because the patient is confident in their ability to
deliver quality care, not because they won a popularity contest between
dentists.

Ask you friends or family in the area.  There is no ranking system on who is
the best like American Idol.

Never trust someone with two first names, never trust a dentist that
sings.
