I am 35 and just now getting braces. My upper arch is very crowded and
crooked, but my lower arch is fine for the most part. I asked my
orthodontist if we could just correct the upper and he said yes.
However, the more I research this, the more skeptical I'm becoming.
Would I be compromising my result (perhaps my bite) if I didn't correct
both arches together? I'd really like to save myself the money and
trouble if bottom braces aren't necessary, but on the other hand, if
I'm going to do it, I want it done right.
Does anyone have any input? Have you ever heard of someone getting only
upper orthodontics?
TIA,

Hopefully an orthodontist will respond, but I have not seen any
cases treated by any of several local orthodontist where only
one arch is treated.
Guess anything is possible, but it sounds very unusual.

I seldom will do ortho on a single arch anymore, never say never though. I
found that I usually worked harder and longer with less success. In any
case when I do I still charge a full fee - with the qualification that at
any time it may be necessary to do the other arch also. Good luck. So, yes
it can be done.
