Hello all -

A couple of months ago I posted this:

Before my next appointment, which was in a few more weeks, I began to
feel swelling around my tooth and it began to throb again. I called my
dentist immediately, and he saw me right away. After taking an x-ray,
he said that the only viable option would be to do the Root Canal
Treatment (or extraction, which I wouldn't want to do). He prescribed
me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. I made another appointment
-- which is now a month away.

My question is this: will the pain go away? It's only been a day since
I've been on the antibiotics, but I've not noticed much of a change.
Will I be in pain this entire month, and contact another dentist
immediately to start the RCT? Or, will this pain go away and my next
appointment (the start of the RCT) be OK?

Thanks again, and you guys were right about the RCT.

I would wait a good 48 hours to see if the Antibio's will contain the
infection. You need good antiinflammatories till then, so try 4 Advil's,
if your stomach can stand it. Some yogurt will help. Ice down the cheek
or jaw for some further local relief.

After that time, ask your dentist to recommend an Endodontist, if s/he
cannot work you in to open the tooth.

Hope this helps
