Toothache Question

Hi, Got a bad toothache this weekend (why always on weekends?). Now
the pain is pretty bad but when I drink cold water the pain actually
goes away. This is nice but I am drinking water constantly.

My dentist prescribed Tylenol with codeine (30mg strength) but it is
not helping at all.

My question is since the cold water is removing the pain and hot
liquids/foods increase it greatly, does that indicate an infection
which is creating a gas byproduct that is pressing on a nerve. I
believe a prevoius dentist told me that about that scenario long ago.
If so, should I ask my current dentist for antibiotics. Thank you.

...and probably peeing a lot too!  Last year I spent a memorable night
trying to sleep with ice in my mouth due to exactly the same symptoms you
describe.  There was no way my icemaker could keep up, had to go buy a 5# bag at
the local grocery.  I think the dentists here will tell you that you have an
abcess and need a root canal.

I think it is too late for that.  Sorry!  It happens.  Get a root canal job
and your pain will go away, (along with a portion of your bank account).

Actually, that is step one for reversing the exponential growth of
bacteria ,,,,,,, or opening the tooth and physically removing the
bacteria through irrigation, etc.

Classic sign of an abscess. Why not cal lthe doc for a prescription
for antibiotics?

See above. Antibiotics is standard of care for acute periapical
abscessed ,,, ,diagnosed across the internet!

Exactly.

Actually pressure on the nerves of the alveolus (jawbone). This is why
you cannot press on it!

Carlo, are you here?
