Hi all,
My first upper molar was root canalled and crowned several years ago.
Unfortunately, it was a failed root canal as it was causing pain in the
bone above said molar and creating a strange gum infection (kind of
like a tender bump).
Anyways, I opted to have that tooth extracted five days ago. My
dentist removed the periodontal ligament as well. He also prescribed
Biaxin 250 mg for the infection.
Since then, I have felt awful. I haven't been able to work, feel tired
and fatigued and I have frequent heartburn. I am constantly thirsty
and my upper back is sore. Also, I have a strange pain in the center
of my chest. Lastly, my legs seem to be extremely heavy.
I'm extremely active and have never felt so lethargic.
Does anyone know if these symptoms are actually side effects of Biaxin?
Side effects of the extraction? Or the infection?
I've had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted and I was up and running
the following day. I have no idea why one tooth would create so much
problems...
Thanks,
Jackson

Having an infected tooth surgically removed is much different
from non infected impacted WT's removal.
Call your dentist/surgeon and relay your symptoms.
You will likely be just fine.

I agree with #1, but would
withhold #2, awaiting definitive diagnosis.

ONE: Do you have any history of heart
disease or mitral valve prolapse?

Thanks WB and Joel for your input.
On Thursday, I relayed some of the symptoms to my dentist and he called
me into the office and "packed" the extraction hole.
I thought that would do the trick but it hasn't.
As for any heart conditions, not that I know of. I've had an EKG in
the past year. The strange pain in the center of the chest actually
seems more to be rib pain.
Thanks again and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to add that I had been experiencing intense jaw pain along
with the bump in the gum.
I had been told that it was TMJ - paid a specialist $1100 for a splint
that hasn't really alleviated any of the jaw pain.
Could the gum infection have caused the jaw pain? Is there a chance
that my jaw is infected as well? If so, what are the necessary steps
to cure the infection? Will the Biaxin 250 mg take care of it?
Even though the root cannalled tooth and periodontal ligament were
extracted, the gum where the bump was still hurts like before.
Any help would be truly appreciated.

1) No such thing as a TMJ specialist.
2) An NTI device would have been half the cost & more effective
3) An abscessed tooth can make a lot of pain.
4) An abscessed tooth is given root canal treatment or extraction.
5) telling you they removed the periodontal ligament is a brunch of
"hokey"
6) we would need to see you in person to tell you specifics about your
case.
