Frenectomy

I had a frenectomy (due to gum recession) yesterday and have a couple
of questions.  Firstly, how am I supposed to brush my teeth?  I can
barely open my mouth so it's difficult to clean my molars properly.
Does the risk of infection in the surgical areas increase if your teeth
aren't cleaned properly??  I'm a bit worried.  Any comments/suggestions
would be much appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

Just do the best you can re: brushing... You might try using your index
finger with a bit of paste on it. Tomorrow, you can start gently rinsing
your mouth with dilute solutions, but no heavy 'dishwasher' style
swishing around your mouth. I wouldn't worry much about infection. Take
your antiinflammatories and hang loose.

I agree with SP, but who the hell let you loose after a frenectomy without
post op instructions?

Well a part of the instructions was to hold off on brushing my teeth
for the first 24 hours, and then to "continue to clean the rest of your
mouth as you normally would, but avoid the surgical areas with the
toothbrush for the first three weeks".  Unfortunately, brushing your
teeth as you "normally would" is very difficult when you can barely
open your mouth ... hence my (possibly silly :) question.  Anyway, it
was slightly better this morning ...and I rinsed with salt water ...

Thanks!

Is it normal for swelling to *increase* at this stage rather than
decrease?
