Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal) is the state program for the medically indigent.
As Medi-Cal does not pay the dentist even half of the normal fees, many
dentists who independently accept patients in this program do it as a
means of performing charity for the local community.
In addition to these independent dentists, there are also some dental
clinics which are set up to push a large volume of patients through the
door in the shortest amount of time available. Many of the Denti-Cal
patients are routed to these factory-style operations. Due to the huge
volume of patients in the state, it is very difficult for the state to
have any effective oversight of the quality of care obtained by the
patients.
You can obtain the names of a few dentists from Medi-Cal. It would be
advisable for you to check out these dentists before you have treatment
accomplished, as Medi-Cal's referrals are made blindly from a list.
Good luck to you.
