An honest opinion?

I am 75 years old and have a few problems with my teeth:

I have lost all of my molars over the years due to poor hygiene when I was
young. I have lost my bicuspids because my old dentist put in cantilever
bridges. When they gave out, the healthy teeth broke off, too.

I would like to get an honest opinion of how I can restore my ability to
chew: Partials or implants or full denture.

I get a different opinion from every dentist I visited, depending on his
specialty and on what is most expensive.

Could someone offer a suggestion how I might get an impartial review of my
dental situation? I would be glad to pay for the x-rays and an unbiased
opinion.

I live in San Diego.

Thanks for your help

Its depends on Your expectations

-- if you have money -- the best  would be implats -- of course after close
examinationts etc

--- always try to safe your own teeth so next solution-- some kind of
partial

---- next solution full denture-- if you  are going to extract the rest of
teeth

I would further Krzysztof's suggestions in saying that you probably
would get the most unbiased opinion by going to see a prosthodontist
(specialist in replacement of oral structures). This professional would
be able to tell you straight what is the best bet for YOUR particular
situation. S/he would perhaps send you to a periodontist to check on the
health of the remaining teeth, and so guage whether or not they should
be kept. Armed with their reports, you'd be able to make an intelligent
decision.

Hope this helps..

Best option to least favorable:
1. Implants
2. Partial denture
3. Extract your anteriors and get full denture (if your anterior are in
rough shape)

Most expensive to least expensive:
1. Implants
2. Immediate complete denture following extractions
3. Partial denture

Pros/Cons
1. Implants pro:  bone levels are stabilized, teeth do not float around like
dentures.  Con: cost is about it.

2. Partial denture pro: easy and cheap to fabricate.  con need to modify
partial when anterior teeth fail.

3. complete denture pro: no more cavities. con: continued bone loss and
adjustments to dentures that float around (at least if lower denture).

Choice is yours.  The dentists offer their opinions based on what they feel
is best.  I usually present all options with pros and cons of each treament.

You choose between full dentures, partial dentures, and implants.
Otherwise, you can stay as you are. Without seeing you in person,
having X-ray images, and models (plus other diagnostic tests), no one
can give you specifics.

Some people post x-rays to a web page and then get some ideas right
here. This would not be "diagnosis" but simply friendly advice!

Telephone the San Diego County Dental Society and request a referral to a
dentist nearby.
