Peace be with u all,

I'm making a dental clinic system which require using somekind of
digital camera named "IntraOral camera" and a machine named RVJ it
makes an X-Ray image for teeth. My problem is that I don't know how
should my program support such kind of devices?I don't know from whee
to start searching. I need my program to support these devices
independent of the manufacture. I don't know that protocols of
interfacing. How to capture the images from it?? I searched for an
activex componenet or any piece of code to deal with it but no result.
Could anyone help me to find this even if it's not free'but surely not
so expensive'? I don't know if it's the same as any digital camera or
have it's specific driver?
Thanks in advance.
Yours,
Tamir Darweesh.

Are you trying to write a software program to capture photographic,
intra-oral, and radiographic images?

Well, Most of the Intraoral software out there is old and uses the Microsoft
Video For Windows (VFW) API - which is now obsolete. The new stuff uses the
DirectShow API and / or the Windows Media Video API WMV. I use both of
these. You can download the software developer kits from Microsoft - for
free.

X-Ray sensors are harder. Most phosphor plate scanners are straight forward
TWAIN devices.
The tablet sensors are (mostly) read directly using a proprietary DL
although some are TWAIN and some are written to the Microsoft WDM driver
model.. The vendors claim that they write these this is usually and usually
a bit of research on the sensor chip manufacturer's site will reveal
skeleton source code.

How many software authors are as helpful as me? Telling their competition
how to make their application? :)

Let me know when you finished it all ?

Thanks alot for ur help, u r right they are really so few :) but thanks
to Allah they still exist :)
So what I got is that by using "DirectShow API and / or the Windows
Media Video API WMV" I can capture images from intraoral cameras
independent of the manufacturer, right? but why to use both of them?
Aren't they offer the same function or what?
About the X-Ray as I got that I should search the sensor website for
source code? But this mean that I'll support finite number of
manufacturer, right? Is it available for free or what?
Ao sorry for disturbing u :)

VFW is old standard DS is new standard. Most Itraoral Camers I find still
use old one.

Yes - pretty much

This is a hard one. Every sensor is different. The dental sensor hardware
suppliers make it difficult for you. Look on the sensor chip sites. Thomson,
Siemens, Sony etc.

You are starting on a 3 year (minimum) journey. Best of luck

Hello,
Thanks alot for ur valuable information, but why u think it'll take 3
years from me? I'm not going to develop the interface, I only wanted to
know more about what I exactly needed to know which component to buy :)
Till now I found 2 components I don't know which to choose could u help
me in that and if u know anyother one reccommend it for me

The first is "CapturePRO & TWAIN Pro"

*CapturePRO performs image and video acquisition from video capture
devices such as web cams and digital cameras.

* Interfaces with any video capture device that supports USB, FireWire,
WDM, or native DirectShow including legacy Video For Windows devices.

* Capture and compress video with or without audio.

* Output compressed or uncompressed formats including AVI, Windows
Media Content, and others, depending on DirectShow filters the user has
installed.

* Includes the powerful TwainPRO component to interface with TWAIN
devices."Couldn't this be used with the TWAIN sensors?"

The second is "Video OCX"

*The control is compatible with most Video-for-Windows (VFW) devices,
such as USB cameras (webcams) and framegrabbers in conjunction with a
CCD camera or camcorder.

Thanks alot.
Tamir Darweesh.
