Red lump/patch on roof of mouth

Off the bat, here's my info:

Male, 23 years old, I don't smoke, drink alcohol, or take any drugs, and I
brush and floss twice a day with Biotene toothpaste and Biotene mouthwash.

Okay, a few months ago I noticed this lump/patch because it was irritated.
I assumed it was a scratch from something I ate.  The pain has since gone
away, but the lump is still there and still red, and not getting any
smaller.  Not to sound like a hypochondriac, but is there a possibility this
could be cancer?

Also (I'm not sure if this matters) for the last few months I've had some
problems with "mouth breathing" when I slept, and I'd wake up with cotton
mouth.  A few weeks ago I got some of the Breathe-Right nasal strips and
some dry mouth gel from Orajel.  This has helped me greatly.

Could the dry mouth from the previous months have cause the lump (or impeded
its healing)?

Thanks.

The quickest and surest way to check is to go to either your doctor or
dentist who can take a sample of the lump and send it out for a biopsy.
Takes about a week to ten days to get the results back.

Could be a relatively normal and benign torus, puffiness from being a mouth
breather, or it cold be some sort of growth (the worst of which is cancer).
Your dentist will often be able to tell by just looking.  If it is a growth
of some sort, a biopsy may be indicated.

When was the last dental exam?

Why not see a dentist?

These are sometimes, but not always pizza burns.

Could it be similar to the image seen here? Either way, get it checked.
