I developed pain in my upper back molar tooth.
My dentist told me I should get a crown. He said he could fill it to last a
few years. So that is what he did. I wanted to save money.
After the filling I am still getting pain with cold water and hot water. My
dentist checked it again and he hit the tooth and I had no pain. Then he blew
air around the tooth and I yelled ouch. Dentist says it is the little nerves
that go around the tooth that is giving me problems. He put some ointment on
them too see if that would plug up the nerves. It helped a little but a week
later I still have pain with cold water.
Question:
1. Are there any other things I can try to get rid of this pain? I.e.
sensodyne toothpaste. More ointment from Dentist.
2. Does it seem to be inevitable I need a root canal?
3. Would a crown cover the area better and I would not have as much pain?
(Dentist said no - crown would not have helped)

How long does the pain last for?
If you are getting short sharp pain that last a few seconds (ie lasts as
long as the stimulus) then this is reversible pulpitis, and RCT would not be
indicated in the majority of cases.
If the pain lasts for ages, wakes you up at night, then this is irriversible
pulpitis and would need either RCT or XT.
BTW what filling did he give? Composites are known to have marginal
shrinkage when you light cure them, at it is possible that there is a void
or some form of marginal leakage.

Pain only lasts as long as stimulus.
Filling was the new white stuff. He applied it with a gun. (my old dentist
always used silver. old school I presume.)
Whats the cure for reversible pulpitis?

leave it alone so it can reverse itself.

Not always ........ then again the tooth may need root canal therapy.
And that is never frugal!
(It may need a crown afterwards to avoid splitting).

Correcting a former post, where "Day is Done" song attributed to camping is
erroneous. It is a song of the army?
The musings of the words to "Embers" resembled so much the songs of camp,
really thought it was professional work.
Since camp recalls happy experiences of childhood camp, campfires,
marshmallows, etc. here is the song that was intended.
When you come to the end of a perfect day
And you sit alone with your thoughts
While the chimes ring out with a carol gay
For the joy that the day has brought
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
can mean to a tired heart
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray
and the dear friends have to part.
Well, this is the end of a perfect day
Near the end of a journey too
But it leaves a thought that is big and strong
With a wish that is kind and true
For memory has painted this perfect day
with colors that never fade
and we find at the end of a perfect day
The soul of a friend we've made
End
This reallly, at the end of a perfect day of archery, swimming, volley ball,
boating, and the counterparts of the boys camp on the other side, etc .makes
camp a memorable experience.
