Who were all those people?  Which people? ... oh, THOOOOOOSE people...
referred to by Homsy in the quoted text below.  Homsy wants peace in his
life.  He does not deserve to have peace.

What *if* all those people had used an NTI???  How might the entire
history of "Vitek/Proplast TMJ implants" have been different?

What *if* the patient was not responsible for why the tissues of the
joints had been destroyed?

Another piece of the puzzle borrowed/stolen from:

http://www.mindfully.org/Plastic/Teflon/Jaw-Implants-Fault29jul02.htm

> John Kent, the oral surgeon at Louisiana State University who helped develop
> and promote the product, allegedly ignored research that linked the devices
> to aggressive giant cell formation and extensive bone loss. Early on, he is
> said to have dismissed a damaging study of the effects of the implants on
> dogs and allegedly used his position on a professional board to try to
> squelch a study on monkeys, according to lawsuits filed in Louisiana. In
> 1984, Kent wrote to his partner, Vitek founder Charles Homsy, about a
> patient's "devastating results." Kent worried that the implants could lead to
> "a calamity of unbelievable proportions." All the while he continued to

> royalties.
>
> Kent declined to comment. Homsy said he prefers not to discuss the past. "I'm
> at a time in my life when I want peace," he said. But when asked why his
> implants failed, he blames the patients. "If you've destroyed your own tissue
> by grinding your teeth, and are given a second chance with an implant, you
> have to protect it," he says.

If you're puzzle building, you will need all the pieces if you intend to
fill in all the holes of the picture you wish to see.

What does the NTI have to do with history? What might it have to do with
the present ... and how about the future?  (Tis the season to think as
Dickens would have wanted.)

WARNING Bad pun ahead .......

Dr. Homsy decided not to publish the papers written there because he
thought people would never take seriously any paper that was too
"Homsy-Folksie."

I'm rather confused by this thread, as I have no experience with the
topic of artificial joint replacement (and I'm still not done reading
that pdf text that you put up for DL).

Okay... that's good.  And confusion?  Well, that's what I would say is
"expected".

FWIW: I also DL'ed the IatroEpidemic, but I WILL pay for it as promised.
EN PASSANT: this is one of the few cross posting targets that, IMO, the
SMP should allow.

It is amazing that this guy is still walking around on two good legs.
Don't all you TMJ patients ever haul off and just get mad? I could see
this if it was a mistake, but the SOB **knew** they were provoking a
huge inflammatory response. And he kept on going.... I'd call that
criminal negligence, for which he should have been put behind bars. You
all lost the suit. Then, he should still be made to pay for all this.
JMHO, shooting off my mouth in fields where angels fear to tread.

It is an incredible piece of history.  ... simply incredible.  And when
you find yourself caught up in the middle of it, the whole event is
almost more than come to terms with without losing it. :-(  So, I did
what I could and have no regrets.

And like I've said already twice: you should write another book. And you
said you had your hands full placing the Aliens from the UFO behind your
house into the California society. Fine. But if'n you do, it would be
good poetic justice. You knwo what would be good? A Documentary touching
on all aspects of the TMJ saga from symptoms to treatments to cover-up
to sabotage to post trauma to today. If I'm not mistaken, you can make
accusations in a Documentary and you cannot be sued as long as you can
prove your accusations.

You don't need to answer this. Just think about it.

Glad you like it: just remember if you *do* get around to a documentary,
have the legal eagles look over your accusations before you show it. You
don't want to get burned twice.
