I think I brought this one up a year or two ago.  I'll bet you get a variety
of opinions  All my employees have been here for over 1 1/2 years.  I have
given cash forever.   I'm sure it's expected at this point and if I didn't
they would pull a Clark and Cousin Eddie on me.  This year I budgeted $300
each.

I wonder why though.  Last year IIRC there was not *one* acknowledgement.

Tell them you had a bad year, drop it to $150 each and call it a day.

i hear that.

Unfortunately, being generous soon becomes expected.
Dr Steve - 08 Dec 2004 19:43 GMT
Whatever you do ,,,,,, do NOT call it a Christmas bonus.  You will stuck
doing it every year, and become the prixxx the first year you cannot afford
to give more than last year.

We do a Holiday dinner at a nice restaurant with the entire staff and all
their spouses and children.  I pick up the tab.  It usually occurs after the
first.  Small gifts for the staff are usually presented at that time.  If
the previous calendar year went very well, and bills are all on time on
January first, I will figure out what I can afford and will give some cash
as well.  The cash clearly is not a bonus, but rather a gift of
appreciation.  Some years, the cash gift does not occur.  We then do annual
performance evaluations in February with salary increases to staff members
who improve and work hard (usually everyone).

It's already not true. The new 50s (if I remember correctly) are PINK.

I wonder how long it will be before they decide to resize the bills
according to denomination.

Sure it wasn't a blue angle because they don't seem to last that long. Come and
gone.

Being a Christmas bonus discussion, I undoubtedly meant Angel erroneously spelt
Angle.

Not a good day for me. Spent 1/2 the night working on a set of dentures I forgot
I promised someone they could have for their Thursday appointment. Got them done
on time for the appointment. Then found out the patient was booked for next
Thursday, I just wrote down the wrong Thursday. They got them early, they are
happy, and I have one less thing to do next week.

On the up side, that's one way to get ahead of schedule!  I figured you
meant angel but the trouble was, I didn't have a bill to look at to
check for blue angels or blue angles (as in some sort of lines???) !!

Take care and get some rest tonight, Roy.

I try hard to make the smile and a thank you every day.  Instead of saying
goodbye at the end of each day, I always say "thank you for helping me out
today."  Or,  "Thanks for being yourself today".  Something along those
lines.  Then, every once in a while, (no correlation to any Holiday or time
of the year) slip them a fifty or a hundred dollar bill with no paper trail.
Just a gift for working hard and being themselves.  I suppose the IRS would
like to get in on this, but I don't claim it as a business expense either.
So the net tax to the IRS stays about the same.  Depending on the year, this
may occur once or up to four times.  I try to keep it totally unexpected.
