I'm considering these 2 programs to help me with some of the accounting.
Does anyone here use these? or have a preference?
From what I understand, Simply Accounting is more detailed but also more
confusing. Quickbooks is supposedly simpler to use. I hope it can do
everything I need once the accounts get set up on it.
Thanks for any advice... Jan need not apply.

I use quickbooks I like it.
only complaint with it is that I use client id numbers with the name
and this messes up the alphabetical sort by last name meaning I have
to go up and down the list to find the client.
I never used simply accounting.

I've been using Simply Accounting since its Dos days as Bedford. Every now &
then I get PO'd enough with SA to want to switch, then they come out with a
new version. Each new version addresses some of my concerns. My biggest
issue has been that although they claim it integrates with M$ office, the
fields won't allow for a good mail merge. The latest version will finally
link the customer data to M$ Outlook. (or so they say) It has only been out
about 3 weeks.
It is simple to use once set up, multiple levels of security and provides a
full audit trail. It also comes in different flavours. I'm going to try the
pro this time around to see how it will run over the network. I'm not sure
if the link below will still work as it was set up for a free trial download
of the last version (2004). When I try it, it auto completes the forms for
me and did not go any further.

I would recommend you look at practice mgmt software first, e.g.. AbleDent
or whatever. That will keep your office running and allow EDI etc. Then see
how they export the data for accounting. Then look at the accounting to see
if it will import from the mgmt stuff.
I started before the mgmt software was made for Denturists, and have put off
buying that until I know which ones are going to work with the EDI. The EDI
has been held up for a variety of reasons for Denturists. Negotiations to
use the CDAnet or other groups to access the insurance industry have been
one of the major hold-ups.
If you have specific questions ask away. BTW I know of dentists that are
also using it.
My questions to you would be:
What are your computer abilities?
What is your accounting knowledge?
What does your accountant recommend?
What do you want it to be able to do?
