In Colorado it was made legal in 1977.

The very first state to make LA legal for RDHs was the state of
Washington in 1971.  You WA boys should be proud of this one!  Here
let me list all the states that allowed it before the year 2000.

WA - 1971
OR - 1975
ID - 1975
NV - 1972
CA - 1976
NM - 1972
CO - 1977
MO - 1973
LA - 1988
SC - 1995
NM - 1995
MT- 1985
UT - 1983
WY - 1991
NE - 1995
KS - 1993
WI - 1998
SD - 1992
AR - 1995
ME -1997
VT - 1993
AK - 1981
HI - 1987

All the rest were after the year 2000.

I think there are 14 states that still are about 20 years behind the
times and don't allow their RDHs to administer LA. Sad deal.  Now
those states need the WALKERs with WHEELS Joel !  I feel sorry for the
DDS/RDHs in those states they are very much behind the times.......

Cool

I live in WA, and have never ever had a RDH give me the shot. I HATE
getting shots, and if somebody who wasn't a dentist or a medical
doctor tried to give me a shot of local they would encounter fairly
extreme restistence.

Interesting!

Please do not let Jan Drew see this post. If she hears WA boys, she
will immediately think of what it rhymes with ... Jew Boys ......

Sorry, I could NOT resist!

My Usenet connection seems okay, but the Web is down for me.  Can't get
any email because it comes through yahoo.  Anyway, I think I've had
enough of the Janster for one day.  Did you happen to lose anything Joel?

Why would I be getting local from an R.N.?

I'm not very much sure about how much training R.N.s get in terms of
sticking needles into the mouth. I would have no problem with a RN
giving me an IV or the like (well, no more problem than anybody else).

The problem is, I hate getting shots in the mouth. I hate needles, and
the fact that certain shots (can we say platal) feel like somebody is
driving a needle into my nose does not help. I don't think they don't
have the ability to do a good job, it's just that my mind refuses to
listen to sound logic in this matter.

Good thing you left 'semi' in your sig. <just a little kidding>

There isn't anything magical about giving an injection of local
anesthetic in the mouth.  RDH's are trained just as well as RN's for
their respective duties.

If you don't shy away from an RN starting an IV or giving another type
of injection, it wouldn't be logical to worry about a RDH numbing your
mouth.

They might even be more concerned about your comfort than some dentists
(and also might be less rushed to aid in an easy job).

JMO,
Fawks

I admited it was illogical. It makes no sense for me to be like that,
but that's how it is. I have *lots* of irrational fears in the area of
dental anethesia, and I have no idea where I got them from.

BTW, I didn't say I wouldn't shy away from the RN giving me an IV. I
said I wouldn't put up any more of a challenge than anybody else would
get. I don't like needles so much, that I've never found out my blood
type, because the times I had a chance to I had to prick myself to get
the blood.

Well... The wife and I spent some 8 hours in an emergency room over the
weekend (she had a widdle boo-boo) and the best we could tell, we never saw an
MD.  She had (yes) local anesthesia, x-rays, a bone reset, & stitches.  We saw
PAs, nurses, clerks, aids, technicians, but not one MD.  As far as we could
tell, she had the best of care.  My point is that paraprofessionals are moving
"up the food chain" in the medical/dental world.  Get used to it.

My "doctor" at the VA is actually a PA, and that is fine with me.  For some
reason, they expect him to see a fraction of the patients an MD sees, so I get
lots of attention and a careful exam every time.

That said, dental anesthesia requires a detailed knowledge of anatomy and a
fine touch.  I would rather my dentist take a moment and do it personally.

Thanks Webby.  It is painful, but she will live.  She went back to work
today and is now practicing one-handed dental lab technology.

Well first about me.

If I klepto a little artwork (READ STEAL), I never post back where
someone who actually did the artwork or worse, PAID FOR IT, will ever
see it.

LIKE THIS:

(¨`·.·´¨) (¨`·.·´¨)
  `·.¸(¨`·.·´¨)¸.·´
       `·.¸.·´
       ¸.·`* ¸.·*¨¨)
      (_¸.·* ¸.·*
   (`'·.¸(`'·.¸*¤*¸.·'´)¸.·'´)
  «´¨`·..*~ See what I mean?* ..·´¨`»
    (¸.·'´(¸.·'´*¤*`'· .¸)`'·.¸)

So ,,, some unnamed person saw the Three Monikeys, thought it to be
clever, (which it is), and then posted HERE! RIGHT HERE! For everyone
to check his web site ... that included THREE STOLEN MONKEYS!

Now he's a good guy, so do not embarrass him. He was sorry!

Web is up.  Looked at the email and realized that it contains an address
that I really don't want out "there" ... can't imagine why ;-)

I prefer to send it to you privately but how am I to be certain that it
is going to *you* and not someone else?  A dilemma.  To send or not to
send ... ah, that is the question.  Maybe it's better to post it here
and just snip out a couple details in the path.

Not exactly.  Annotations would be different.  But, that isn't to say
it's not possible to doctor-up the annotations correctly or incorrectly.
