The Webby - 15 Nov 2004 18:38 GMT Whoever just tried to send me an infected email should know that it was cleaned up before delivery.
Any idea who would have sent that to me?

The file attached to this email was removed because it is infected with the W32.Beagle@mm!cpl virus.
ares - 17 Nov 2004 02:59 GMT I've gotten that one recently; could be some sort of email harvester and it spoofs other people's addresses making it look like they sent it to you when it was really someone else who got your address from someone's address book or from the newsgroup. I didn't open the attachment so I was ok. ares

And you-all are running MacOS X... That's supposed to be relatively impervious to virus and such... So I don't see how this file could infect you, unless it's specifically directed to attack Macintoshes. It seems to me the only thing you have to worry about is passing it on to other recipients in your emails. If you have Little Snitch, that should catch any unauthorized attempts to access the Internet by that worm.
Hope this makes sense...

Roy Brown - 19 Nov 2004 07:32 GMT Gentlemen,
Considering I've been around this newsgroup for a while, having the same initials as RB.
I would appreciate it if you could find some way to distinguish us as distinct individuals other than by initials. Your comments really do not look all that favourable of me.
If all the Steve's here could do it, surely there is a solution.

I don't really endorse Hell, though, I felt like I've been there a few a times. I understand from the likes of David Suzuki, that if we don't respect Ozone, we are going to feel like we are in hell.

I hear you, Roy, and that is actually why I always put Ray Berlotti's initials as <RB> (sharp parentheses) when referring to his lecture comments, as I'm well aware that your RB acronym belongs here while <RB> is not a reg. In truth, once or twice I may forget, especially in the body of a posting, but that's why you see the <RB> that way. I'll change it to RBBD as in Ray Berlotti BondoDontist, then there will be no confusion. 'Sides; nobody seems interested in hearing about what he had to say....
But, remember Roy, NOBODY here refers to you as RB, it's always Roy. Sorry, hope this clears that up. SP

My ISP (Earthlink) has a virus blocker I can set, which removes the attachment before it reaches my mailbox. Last year I was receiving as much as a hundred or more PER HOUR, before I had Earthlink set up with virus blocker, and though I had Norton Antivirus on my PC, I still had to log onto my e-mail account every couple of hours or the mailbox would get clogged with this crap and no legit. e-mails would get through. About the same time, I started to get reports from folks in various newsgroups I've participated in that they were having the same problem, so I assume there was some robot harvesting e-mail addresses from usenet.
