A month ago I lost the filling on the side of one of my teeth. How
soon should I refill the tooth? I'd like to wait til I go home and
that does not happen til January... is there any dangers of decay?
Thank you beforehand!

Nah.
Wait it out .....
Brush and avoid too much Nestle's bars ,,, the white chocolate .......
it looks like tooth structure ..... but softer of course.

If you were me, you'd wait until the next available appointment at the
dentist.

Unless you broke your tooth, or the filling was retained competely
adhesively, there was probably decay. What kind of filling was it?
Silver fillings (usually) are retained because they cannot come out of
the hole they are placed into. Decay around that hole can make it so
it can come out.
Also, the exposed underlying surface is more susceptable to decay than
normal tooth structure.
Why don't you just call your dentist and ask if he knows a good
dentist wherever you are at?

I think he means will there be significantly more decay if he waits until
jan to get it filled.

A true gamble with no way to give advice without an exam.
