Hello everyone

My 34 year old wife has a severe overbite (big gaps up top etc) and
has now had two impacted wisdom teeth and two molars (one previously
cracked and since dead) out in prepration for braces.

At the moment she is not wanting to spend the money on getting the
braces and has delayed it. What I want to know is.. does it matter if
she waits a while.. months, a year? Does it make any difference or
none at all?

Thanks for any info

Possibly.  There is a phenomena that can occur called "mesial drift".  If
there is an empty space between teeth there is a tendency for the ones
behind it to move towards the front of the mouth. It happens most of the
time but not *always*.  Her ortho may be planning on utilizing the space
left from the extractions to reduce the overbite.  It's time for a quick
re-consultation.  She should explain her hesitance and ask if there will be
irreversible sequela from it.  Good luck.
