Specifically for composite fillings. What type of questions should I ask
about how they do composite fillings so that I know they are doing it the
new and improved way? They may find it odd that I am asking them how they
are doing fillings... I just can't trust anymore friends & family referrals.
And I can't trust my orthodontist because they are in cahoots with my old
dentist. For example, whenever I make an appointment with my dentist, my
orthodontist knows about it within 20 minutes.. and anywhere my dentist has
an office the orthodontist has an office next door. I think I'm going to
catch some flak from my orthodontist if/when I switch to another dentist.
It's like the mafia.

Just be honest and tell the new person the truth about your history and your
concerns.  If the new person is sincere, they will go into detail for you,
if not sincere, they will get rid of you quickly.

Good plan! I like it

You can't trust friends and family referrals, but you're going to trust
some anonymous people on usenet?

Answer: YES. I've been posting/lurking here for 2 years, and had a total
mouth restoration. If it wasn't for this group I would be in even *worse*
shape than I am in now... at least, I think.

Well, the method I used was to lurk around on dentist forums until you
find somebody near you that you like, and seems competent.

Perhaps that's not the best method....
